Doug Tompkins, founder of The North Face, died in a kayaking accident in Chile on Tuesday. Big winds reportedly capsized Tompkins and his group in frigid waters — Patagonia founder Yvon Chouinard was also in the group but survived. The team at The New York Times penned a report on Tompkins’ remarkable life. On a personal note, I worked at The North Face. My tenure was long after Tompkins had left the company but his innovative legacy remained. Sad day indeed.
